Fruits That Replace A Sweet Treat

Everyone has had that craving for a sweet treat at one time or another. It can be addressed by eating a candy bar or food with added sugar or with fruits. The best solution is the natural one/ It’s the sweetness that Mother Nature provides. Before modern society developed the donut, cavemen had fresh fruit as their treat.

Start with the sweetest first.

Two fruits that aren’t as popular in this country but sweet are dates and figs. Paste made from either can be used to sweeten other dishes. Both are a good source of fiber and dates have potassium and antioxidants, too. You can cut dates in half and put in nut butter or a nut for a quick snack or make a snack of whole grain bread, ricotta cheese, and figs.

Red grapes or pears could satisfy your urge for something sweet.

Whether you eat a whole pear or have a bowl of grapes, they’re sweet and delicious. Like most fruits, they have loads of fiber to help control blood sugar levels. Sprinkle some cinnamon and ginger onto the pears, then bake them for a delicious dessert. Freeze the grapes and pop them in your mouth for a frozen treat on a hot summer’s day. Adding grapes and nuts to a salad can turn it into a delicious, sweet treat. Adding grapes and nuts can transform an ordinary salad into a delicious, sweet treat.

Peaches, pineapple, or blueberries can fill that void when you need a sweet treat.

You’ll get good nutrients like vitamins C and A when you eat peaches, pineapple, or blueberries. Blueberries also contain an antioxidant called anthocyanin. It’s what gives the blueberries its color. If you choose the smaller wild blueberry version, they’re even sweeter. Top cottage cheese with pineapple for a sweet treat that’s a good pre and post-workout snack. Like pears, topping them with ginger and other spices and grilling can make a treat that’s also a good dessert. Top your oatmeal with blueberries and get the sweetness plus a boost of antioxidants.

  • Enjoy fresh fruit to the maximum by giving up food with added sugar. The more food with added sugar you eat, the less your body responds to it, and the more it takes to get that sweet taste.
  • Who doesn’t love the crunch of an apple and the sweet taste that follows? You can make it even more special by combining apple slices with cheese or nut butter.
  • Choose your favorite fruit or fruits with water and blend them. Pour the mixture into frozen treat containers and freeze overnight. You can make the treat creamier by substituting yogurt for water.
  • You can make ice cream from bananas and other types of fruit. Slice the banana into small coins and freeze. Toss the banana coins and other frozen fruit into the blender until it’s a smooth creamy ice cream-like treat.
